I am a massive Extreme fan – but in 1998 there was no Extreme. However, Gary Cherone was still out there singing and touring in a little band called Van Halen. I did listen to Van Halen III a few times when it came out and I stand by the song Without You being great.

BUT, I don’t think I would have purchased tickets to see this show – especially since I was a poor college kid. However, radio station websites were fairly new at the time and they ran contests specifically on their sites – contests that I don’t think a lot of people entered…Which was how I won floor seats to see Van Halen from the now defunct WAAF.

I took my girlfriend (maybe she was my fiance at this point?) and loved just about every minute of it.

Van Cherone didn’t last long – but for that one night it was pretty great.
