This is my second James Kaine book this year and I think my sixth overall (I have started backlogging this blog with books I’ve read over the past couple years but it’s far from complete). I just enjoy his books. They’re fun, easy to digest and pack a punch.

I found out half way through reading there will be a sequel coming out I think for Christmas. Did that maybe spoil this book a bit knowing there wasn’t a definitive ending? Slightly but that’s okay.

I realize I’ve read a few “Final Girl” related books now and I enjoy the concept and how it might be perceived in the “real world” that these stories take place in.

It was available on Kindle Unlimited, but I actually bought it because part of my purchase was donated to the Tourette Association of America. Jame’s Kaine’s son was diagnosed in 2020 with Tourette syndrome, and the main character of this book also lives with Tourette’s.

I really found that part of the book enlightening. Pretty much anything I know about Tourette’s I know because of media portrayals, but this story helped personalize it showed how someone lives their day-to-day life with it, and I really appreciated that.

Oh and of course there was blood and guts. I appreciate that too – but on a guilty/slasher fan level!

Looking forward to getting to the Kaine books I haven’t read yet, to the sequel to this story, and to whatever he does next.
