The Bluest of Skies

For years, Twitter had been my go-to social media landing spot. It was a great way to connect with like-minded people, a great way to promote various podcasts, and a fun way to “watch along” and tweet live during sports/news/wresting events.

I think new ownership has turned it into shit.

The renaming and rebranding of it has to be one of the dumbest, most unsuccessful (in my eyes at least) changes in the history of tech. I’ve never called it by it’s current name. It stands out to me when people do.

I heard about BlueSky years ago and was intrigued to find yet another way to post/promote/connect. A friend of mine got an invite through his work that he generously let me have and I was in.

I used it alongside Twitter for the most part, but Twitter was still where I went for live posting. Along the way, people I like and respect, people I follow and enjoy, people I listen to on podcasts, started doing more on Bluesky and less on Twitter.

I started realizing that my Twitter experience was slowing down, and interactions weren’t as high.

And then, oh the whole thing with the owner being a giant psychopath trying to take over our country.

Between that and the fact that I was getting more interaction on BlueSky, I started thinking – what am I doing over there? Why?

I haven’t posted much over there in months, and I don’t foresee doing it any time soon. Even live events, and podcast stuff – I think I just want to focus on BlueSky.

My main account over there is @geekmentality.bsky.social so I hope you give it a follow.

That being said, I found out you can create an account and use a custom domain, so I created one for this website. I don’t plan on ever posting over there EXCEPT when posting here on this blog. In fact, I added a plugin that will auto-post to BlueSky whenever I publish a blog post.

This is the first time I am using it. You can follow the blog on Bluesky as well at bsky.app/profile/mikecorreia.com.

I’m not sure I want to delete my Twitter account(s) yet – you never know, it might become less of a cesspool with less of a prick owning it. But don’t expect much posting over there, if any.

For me, there are bluer skies elsewhere.
