This book was a lot of fun. It felt like Billy Madison meets Schitt’s Creek meets Only Murders in The Building (I think, to be fair I have yet to start Only Murders and I’ve only seen a few Schitt’s Creek episode).
A rich kid (I can say 29 year old people are kids still) who has lived the overly-pampered life must now rough it at a kid’s summer camp with his aunt – his 12 year old aunt – in order to secure his trust and keep on being filthy rich. But as the story goes on, our lead character Mikey (great name) starts to change, with the help of the group of kids he’s responsible for – and the hunky lifeguard who ends up being his cabin-mate.
Oh and throw in a possible murder from years ago that the kids – and Mikey – become obsessed with solving.
This book was a happy accident for me. Literally just looking at the shelf of new arrivals in my public library. The title and look of the cover had be taking it off the shelf. A quick read of the synopsis had me taking it home.
They say to never judge a book my its cover, but sometimes it works out.
I realized when I was getting towards the end I was hoping for certain things to happen with our characters. That means I cared about them – which to me is half the reason to read a book!
The other half – the story itself – was also worth it. Again, lots of fun – definite recommend.
