Another fun entry in the series! I read the first Clown in a Cornfield back in 2023 after finding it on Libby. I finished and immediately bought and read the sequel. I then read the third book as soon as it came out – and here we are with the fourth in the series!
Still not sure it will be the last, though Adam Cesare did make it sound like he has no immediate plans for a follow-up.
This book felt “meta” in the way that the story revolves around a movie being made about the real-life murders in the small down of Kettle Springs – and just last year there was a movie adaptation of the first novel – which I watched last year for my yearly movie month.
I have to admit, one of the characters, who debuted in the second book, I barely remembered. I remembers a movie theater, and I remember a teen working there who was a sibling to a victim in the first book, but I didn’t remember her name or that she was a trans woman. Not that it matters at all, it just took me a moment because I was thinking “am I being introduced to this girl or am I already supposed to know her.”
I had to do a little Googling – and it’s been a couple years – so that’s on me!
I think the only thing that I found hard to believe was that the town who had this tragedy happen would allow a movie studio to shoot a movie about that tragedy right there! Maybe Cesare could have worked in something about bad press or it being a bad look.
I mean, if you know anything about the story and I was an actor or crew member – I would not want to stand foot in that town.
And I would have been right!
That being said, I very much enjoyed this book and I just like how Cesare writes. It was a breeze to read. It took a week – but again for me, that is breeze!
I hope he does continue the series, but even if he doesn’t – I need to search out more of books and read them!
