I have a distinct memory of when I started reading James Kaine. It was October 2004. I know for a fact it was October because I remember reading it from a hospital bed! Long story short, I went into the hospital on a Wednesday night with stomach pains and left the hospital Friday morning without my gall bladder!
My wife came to visit me and I asked her to bring my Kindle – and My Pet Werewolf was the book I had recently started. I ended up not reading much in the hospital (turns out lack of caffeine leads to killer headaches) but once I got home I was able to sit outside with much needed coffee – and finish that fun book!
Iβve since read the prequel, and two other of his books before this one. I know this because I am a crazy person who keeps a Google Spreadsheet tracking each book I read (thatβs how I get the % on my main page) as well as a list of authors or series I want to read all the books from:

I will eventually catch up, and then just play the waiting game like ever other reader.
I like his stories because they can be creepy, fun, scary, and then down right graphically violent. This one falls in the fun/scary/violent category – and something that could technically happen in the real world.
He did a good job of introducing you to a few different people who wind up part of this wild “kill-or-be-kill” game that serves as entertainment for the wealthy sickos of the world.
The book is like a wild/gonzo/grindhouse horror movie that people would watch through their fingers – and I mean that as a compliment.
The story was quickly paced with characters that you root for, and just when you think – oh I know who will survive – think again.
And do NOT stop reading when Kindle tells you youβre done. Do not stop even after seeing the Authorβs bio page. This book basically has an after credit stinger! What does it mean? Will we see this world again? These characters? Have we already and I just donβt know because I havenβt read the other books yet?
Thereβs only one way to find out – keep reading James Kaine.
And I will.
