My Kindle must be missing me, because this was yet again another actual physical book that I read – my fourth in a row – three of which were from my local public library. My first time reading Riley Sager, though I have seen that author (or at least that pen name) and his books all over the place in the past year.
I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, but the title and the author are what drew me to picking this up off the library shelf (kudos to the librarian for highlighting a book from 2017!) I read what I thought would be a “similar-ish” book by Grady Hendrix a few years back, but besides the title and the idea of a “Final Girl” as a thing (which neither author invented) I can happily say that these books are very different.
And equally enjoyable.
This one was more thriller than horror, though there were definite moments of the latter throughout the story. I enjoyed the tone and style of the author (won’t be my last read of his) and I really liked how he used flashbacks to answer some questions while simultaneously asking others!
And, oh the twists! There were twists I figured were coming, twists I didn’t see coming, and twists that I thought I saw coming that did not! I devoured this book in under a week, which for me is very fast. Though, within the past year maybe that is becoming my new normal? I have found that I want to grab my most recent book before I want to watch an episode of television, or watch a movie – or go places and do things (okay that’s partly a joke).
I just really, really enjoyed this book to the point where this morning my dog let me sleep in a little longer than normal and my first thought was – but now I have less time to read before work! Turns out I still had enough time to finish this morning (helps my dog didn’t want to walk all that far with the yellow smokey skies surrounding us).
This is a definite recommend.
